HARD TO FIND 1930’s EFFANBEE SUGAR BABY – 25″

$295.00

This is a gorgeous composition character doll. She measures in length approximately 25″.

This is the Effanbee Sugar Baby doll that was made in the USA, and it is clearly marked on the back of the head. It is one of the rarer baby dolls in a series they produced in the 1930’s era and this one has the lovely open mouth with teeth.

The head, legs and arms are composition, and the rest of the body is cloth as shown in the photos.

All the composition components are in good, played with condition with minor marks and minor chips as to be expected. If the painting has had any touch ups it was done before I owned this doll. She (or he as could be a boy) has sleeping eyes that open and close with ease and has retained most of the original soft eyelashes. Prior to me owning this baby the eyes may have been touched up but I don’t know for certain. There is an accent dot in the corner of each eye and the nostrils. The open mouth reveals 2 upper teeth and a tongue behind. There is a small chip mark on the right cheek. The hair is moulded and then painted auburn. The back of the head has some pink paint overspray which is not as bright as showing in my photos and is due to the flash.

The cloth body is in good, solid condition and she has a working ma-ma. I can see some non-professional sewing repairs to the body.

The clothing is not original but suits her perfectly and consists of a vintage fine cotton pale pink toddlers frock with pleating, lace inserts and trims and embroidery. Underneath she has a vintage petticoat that has a split at the top, underwear and toddler socks and soft shoes. She has been finished off with a vintage baby’s bonnet that is a size 000. She will come also with her own teddy bear to keep her company.

This baby displays beautifully and can even sit in a highchair or pram.
