This is an antique German Kammer & Reinhardt 100 character baby that has provenance. He was commonly known as the “Kaiser” baby doll. He does though have a professionally repaired head and as such the price reflects this. This doll is 15″ in length.

This doll belonged to the late Lila Rait, author of “Through The Nursery Window” and he is pictured on Page 120 of her book dressed in the exact same outfit. His owner called this doll “Sunny Jim” according to the book and it is believed to have been among the very first of these dolls imported into Australia. The owner recalls he was bought for her in 1909 and she attempted to carry naturalism and the ‘little mother’ role too far with her adored doll, as she vividly recalled popping him into the bathtub and proceeding to wash him – resulting in consternation from the adults, and some attempts at running repairs as can been on the body. The quality of the Kammer and Reinhardt bodies must have been excellent, as the doll withstood even this unexpected treatment.

The head has a professional repair to the forehead area which is now slightly darker than the rest of his domed head. He has intaglio hand painted blue eyes, stroked eyebrows and a red painted open/closed mouth. His chubby cheeks retain the original blush which is nice and bright and he has fabulous exposed ears. His painted hair is stroked on.

The 5 piece bent limbed composition baby body is original with wear as shown in the photos.

His gorgeous outfit is an antique green velvet 2 piece outfit complete with a beautiful lace collar and leather belt around his waist.

Despite the repairs he is a lovely character doll and is ready to display.
