This antique German character baby was commonly known as the “Kaiser” baby due to his unique face and he is a wonderful doll and not often found. He is approximately 12″ in length.

He is very similar to the same doll made by the firm of Kammer & Reinhardt but this one is from an unknown firm. He is just marked with “2, Germany”.

This doll is from the collection of the late collection of Australian author and doll collector Lila Rait (Through the Nursery Window). He is not however in her book.

He has a beautiful domed bisque head with hand painted features including blue intaglio eyes, multi stroked eyebrows and shading around his eyes. He has accent dots in the corner of his eyes and nostrils and has an open/closed mouth. He has well defined chubby cheeks and a chin with a little dimple and lovely exposed ears. There is slight wear to his hair area and a small rub on the end of his nose likely from the factory making.

The bent limbed composition body is original and has wear as would be expected from a doll that was loved and played with. There is also the odd touch up/repair to the body done over the years. The red outlines on the toes and hands can still be seen despite the wear. Please refer to the photos. The stringing is good.

He comes dressed in a vintage frock trimmed with ribbon and lace and underneath has a long petticoat trimmed with lace.

This delightful character doll would appeal to any collector of antique dolls.
