This is a rare cloth doll made by the firm of Chad Valley and not often seen. She is from the 1920’s era and stands in height just over 17.5″.

This doll comes with provenance and is from the estate of the late Lila Rait, the author of “Through the Nursery Window”. She is featured in a photograph on Page 206 of her book and some information about her then on Page 211.

Early Chad Valley cloth dolls are highly sought after and although this one has some minor ageing she is in great condition overall.

She is a Lenci like school-girl with a pressed felt face and painted brown eyes that glance to the sides and painted eyelashes, eyebrows, nostril dots and a red mouth. She has lovely exposed ears to the side. She has blonde mohair plaits with a ribbon tie missing on one side. There is minor ageing to the pressed face.

She has velvet arms and legs and a pink cloth body. The digits are sewn for the fingers with a seperate thumb.

Her lovely school girl costume consists of a white cotton blouse with a collar (could do with soaking), a green felt tunic and matching beret with a logo and green felt undies. She carries her original leather satchel and has socks and black oil cloth shoes. I could see nothing other than ageing to her clothing and some slight fading to the green felt. She has the Chad Valley tag to her clothing as shown in the photos.

This is a real collectors doll and she has a beautiful face and is a wonderful edition to any collection of cloth dolls.
