RARE ARMAND MARSEILLE 20101 WITH WORKING MECHANISM – 21″ HEIGHT
$355.00
This rare doll is from my own personal collection and is the only one I’ve ever owned and it is one that is not seen very often so is a nice doll for any antique doll collector. She has had some minor restoration during the time I have owned her.
This doll was made by the German firm of Armand Marseille and the markings on the back of her head are: “A.2.M, DRGM, 20101”.
Standing 21″ in height she has a bisque shoulderplate head that has no damage. She has raised, multi stroked eyebrows and delicately stroked upper and lower eyelashes as well as the usual red accent dot in the corner of each eye and her nostrils. She has an open mouth with a row of original teeth. As can be seen in the photos she has a unique mechanism in her head and the cut outs for this were done when she was factory made. It contains bellows that are operated by a lever at the back which still works enabling her to “ma” (probably though not as great as it did originally!). Her lovely mohair auburn wig is a replacement as is her cardboard pate, but suit her perfectly and would be similar to what she had originally. Her original blue glass spiral eyes have been set stationary but did originally sleep. With the mechanism inside her head it was near impossible to re-set sleeping without damaging the bellows.
She is on her original jointed kid leather body with half composition arms and legs. As can be seen in the photos the kid leather body has had repairs at the top due to damage that was not repairable and this is all hidden under her clothing. The body is nice and solid with just wear to the leather from a doll that was played with and some rust stains. Her composition half arms also have wear from years of play and there is minor damage to fingers and a non professional touch up of paint to them also (done before I owned her). Her composition legs just have some minor chips to toes.
She has been dressed in an antique fine cotton frock that is trimmed with lace and some ribbon inserted around the hemline. Underneath she has a matching petticoat and also antique pantaloons and later stockings and shoes. Her bonnet is antique and is silk lined.
This is a rare doll and I hope she finds a nice new home. She is display ready.
