FABULOUS CLOTH AUSTRALIAN JOY TOY DOLL IN ORIGINAL BOX + 2 JOY TOY PATTERNS WITH MASKS – CIRCA 1940’s

$275.00

This doll is considered RARE and although unmarked it is an Australian cloth Joy Toy doll that would date to just before World War 2 as at this stage they were still being made up, boxed and sold in stores. Once war commenced materials became hard to find and as such Joy Toy then produced patterns with mask faces (between 1942-1944) so that mothers could still make dolls for their little girls with what materials they had on hand. Included with the doll and her original box are 2 Joy Toy patterns. There are examples of the Joy Toy Doll and Patterns in The Australian Doll Encyclopedia by Marjory Fainges.

The cloth doll measures in length approximately 16″ to the top of her hat. She has a tuft of blonde mohair peeking out from the bonnet. I believe the doll dates to pre-war and the patterns between 1942-1944.

Her head is a mask face with transfer eyes that have ageing around them which is commonly seen in these mask faces. She does have ageing to the mask and her clothing (but mostly the yellow ribbons) along with some holes in the ribbon.

Her clothing is all original and consists of the pale pink frock and matching bonnet, under clothing and sockettes tied with ribbon.

She comes in her original box that is in overall good shape for the age with some damage to a couple of corners.

The 2 patterns are in unused condition and include patterns for the Joy Toy Coralie Doll (17″) along with the pattern for the Joy Toy Sonia Doll (16″). Inside each pattern is the mask face for the doll.

This is a chance to own not just a rare doll but also the extremely hard to find patterns. This is a real collectors item.
