ANTIQUE MOA (MAX OSCAR ARNOLD) GERMAN MADE BOY DOLL – 9″ – AS DESCRIBED
$55.00
This is an antique doll but I don’t think he is all original and am describing him as to what I know. He would date to around 1915.
He measures in length 9″ and could be either a boy or a girl but I have made him into a boy.
The bisque socket head has no damage but the bisque is what I would describe as “patchy” which was common in lower end dolls made at the time they were being produced and Max Oscar Arnold dolls were often not of high quality. The head is clearly incised at the back with MOA, 150, Germany, Welsh, 8/0. HIs open mouth has two little top teeth and definitely the blue stationary set eyes are replacements. The eyebrows are multi stroked and he has the usual red accent dot in the corner of each eye and his nostrils. His lip painting is still nice and bright. I have given him a pate and a wig but they are not attached as have stuffed the head for posting and it is an easy job to attach.
The body is a composition/wooden body and definitely old but do not know if it is the dolls original body. He has been re-strung at some time in his life.
He comes wearing a very nice finely knitted outfit consisting of a jumper, pants, bootees and a gorgeous cap to match. This outfit would have taken many hours to knit!
