This is an antique doll that was produced by the German firm of JD Kestner and would date to 1900 or earlier. She stands in height approximately 20″. Kestner were known as the “King of Dollmakers”.

She has a bisque shoulderplate head that is slightly turned and marked on the back of her head. It has no damage. She has multi stroked eyebrows and delicately stroked upper and lower eyelashes as well as the usual red accent dot in the corner of each eye and her nostrils. She has an open mouth with a row of pearlised teeth. She has sleeping brown eyes with most of her original eyelid wax intact. She retains her original plaster pate but has a replaced auburn wig.

She is on a jointed leather body with bisque arms/hands. The arms/hands have no damage and it looks like there have been minor repairs to joints of her body only. There is some ageing to the leather as expected of a doll of this age.

She comes in a gorgeous reproduction drop waisted frock that was originally purchased from Thieraults in the USA. It is a silk material trimmed with cotton lace and was around the $100 mark alone. She also has a petticoat, pantaloons, stockings and shoes as well as a necklace around her neck.

This doll has a beautiful face and just ready to display. I will not be able to stuff the head on this doll as unable to remove the plaster pate to do so or remove the shoulderplate from the body which would be difficult. I will though provide full insurance “just in case”. She will be packaged well and did arrive to me many years ago without the head being stuffed.
