ANTIQUE GERMAN GOEBEL DOLL – 18″ IN HEIGHT
This doll is a Goebel by F & William and dates to somewhere between 1900 – 1920. Goebel dolls are not commonly found. She stands in height approximately 18″. Goebel are more reknowned for their porcelain making than for making dolls.
She has a bisque socket head with no damage and not your usual “dolly faced doll” and has some real character to her. She has sleeping blue glass eyes that are original to her and she retains most of her eyelid wax. She has an open mouth with 4 upper teeth that are slightly set back and have been done like this in the factory making of her. She has multi stroked eyebrows and delicately stroked upper and lower eyelashes as well as the usual red accent dot in the corner of each eye and her nostrils. She has a dimple in her chin. She has minor rub marks to her cheeks and the end of her nose that are barely worth mentioning. Her wig is a more modern replacement as is her pate and these will need to be re-attached with PVA glue as have been removed to stuff the head to protect the eyes in transit. Her markings on the back of her head are nice and clear.
She has a composition fully jointed body that is in good, played with condition and is strung well. One lower arm is a different colour to the other and could be an antique replacement but she has always been this way since purchasing her.
She is dressed in a pale blue frock heavily trimmed with lace that was made from old fabrics and underneath she has a white petticoat and pantaloons trimmed with lace, knitted socks and lace up vintage shoes. She has a lovely straw hat that is trimmed with antique fabric and feathers.
This is a hard to find doll and lovely amongst any collection.
