ANTIQUE GERMAN DOLL IN “FAIR” CONDITION – 11″ – AS DESCRIBED
$45.00
This is an antique doll but I don’t think she is all original and am describing her as to what I know. She would date to around 1915.
She measures in length 11″ and it appears to me that this doll has been put together.
The bisque socket head is likely to have been a head dug out of the ground but is definitely an antique head. The head is incised at the back with 185, 16/o, X. I believe this attributes her to the German firm of Gebruder Knock who made lower end bisque dolls than other companies. She has paint missing on her cheeks where they are blushed and also paint missing at the back of her head which did often occur when heads have been dug up. Her brown stationary eyes are definitely replacements. She has single stroked eyebrows and delicately stroked upper and lower eyelashes as well as the usual red accent dot in the corner of her eyes and nostrils. Her original lip painting is nice and bright and she retains her row of tiny teeth.
The body is a composition/wooden body and definitely old but believed to be a replacement and roughly painted to make it look older than it is. She has been re-strung at some time in her life.
She comes wearing a simple cotton frock made from old fabrics and trimmed with lace and also has 2 petticoats and pantaloons.
This is what I call a “beginners” doll and as such priced cheaply for someone to give some further TLC.
