ANTIQUE CELLULOID HEADED DOLL WITH COMPOSITION BODY & REPLACED ARMS – DAMAGED

$40.00

This antique doll is not all original and has damage to the head and as such priced cheaply. I will describe her to the best of my knowledge.

She measures in length just over 16″ (around 42cm).

Her head is celluloid and is German and marked with the turtlemark logo so was made by the Schildkrot company and likely dates to the 1930’s era if not a little earlier. She has her original blue glass sleeping eyes and has an open mouth with 2 top teeth and a tongue behind. Her painted eyebrows are worn and I would say her lips have been re-painted for sure at some time in her life. She has cracks to the celluloid as shown in the photos with the worst one being above her right eye and likely extends up beyond her wig. The wig is a vintage saran replacement wig and not original. The celluloid is in aged condition.

I do not know if her body is original or not and could be a replacement. The torso and legs are composition with some wear and her arms are definite replacements as are hard plastic arms from the 1950’s era. Her stringing is fine. She has a band around her torso so would presume the body did have a ma-ma mechanism at some time.

Her previous owner had dressed her nicely in vintage clothing which includes a lace netting frock with diamente trims. Underneath she has a pink satin half petticoat and matching pants. She also wears a lovely velvet cap, matching bonnet trimmed with lace and bootee type shoes to match.

She is an unusual doll and another I classify as a nice “beginners” doll. She is display ready.
