ANTIQUE ARMAND MARSEILLE 351 CHARACTER BABY (DREAM BABY) – 17.5″ HEIGHT
This is a gorgeous character baby by the reknowned firm of Armand Marseille, Germany that was known as the Dream Baby and dates to around the 1920’s era. It is the 351 model which has the open mouth with 2 little teeth.
The bisque domed head is free from damage and just has some minor rubbing on the right hand side of her cheek and forehead. She has slightly molded hair tinged auburn. She has gorgeous original glass blue sleeping eyes with delicately painted upper and lower eyelashes as well as the usual red accent dot in the corner of each eye and her nostrils. Her eyebrows are shaded. Her open mouth has 2 little glass teeth. I do have the head stuffed with tissue ready for transit but this can be removed but having someone assist you in pulling up the head, securing the stringing with a piece of dowel or pencil, removing the head, and taking out the tissues. Some tend to leave the stuffing inside the head. The back of her head is clearly marked.
She is on her original composition bent limbed baby’s body that is in lovely condition with well defined lines around her fingers and toes. She has a non-working ma-ma in her back. Her stringing is a little loose but not too bad and she will sit unassisted.
She comes wearing a gorgeous fine cotton frock with embroidery, pinch pleating and cotton lace. It does up with tiny buttons down the back and eyelets. It has some very small holes in it and could do with a careful soak to brighten it up. It is a teeny bit tight around her neck and I have always tended to leave the top back button undone but it can do up. Underneath she has a petticoat with matching lace trim, pants, socks, shoes and a knitted bonnet to finish her off.
These Dream Babies are just gorgeous and are dolls that you immediately fall in love with! They look wonderful grouped together.
