1930’s MADAME ALEXANDER SONJA HENIE COMPOSITION DOLL – 14.5″ HEIGHT
This is a USA made composition doll by Madamae Alexander and is “Sonja Henie”. She was made for a period between 1939 – 1942 and measures approximately 14.5″ in height.
Sonja Henie was a Norwegian figure skater and film star. She was a three-time Olympic champion in women’s singles, a ten-time World champion and a six-time European champion. Henie has won more Olympic and World titles than any other ladies’ figure skater.
She is in good condition for a composition doll of her age with only very minimal crazing. She has her original brown sleeping eyes with her “real” upper eyelashes intact. There is some crackling to the eyes which often occured in these dolls but it is not too bad. She has an open mouth with a row of top teeth and a red tongue behind. There is some wear to her lip painting. Her eyebrow painting is worn but she still has the eyeshadow painting above her eyes as well as lower painted lashes. She has little dimples in her chin. Her blonde soft wig is original to her and in nice full condition. She has the makers details and her name on the back of her head.
Her 5 piece slim body again is in great condition with minor wear as to be expected from a doll that was played with and her stringing is good.
This model of Sonja Henie did have an original outfit depecting a skater and she has a replica skaters outfit and her lace up shoes with metal skates attached to the soles could be original but I am unsure.
This is a lovely example of this celebrity doll and a great addition for any collector of composition dolls or Madame Alexander dolls.
