1930’s AUSTRALIAN STERNE COMPOSITION DOLL – 22″ HEIGHT
This doll is Australian and is a fabulous example of this doll that was made by Sterne despite she is unmarked. Mr Lionel J Sterne of East Malvern, Victoria was one of the pioneers of manufacturing dolls in Australia. She would date to the 1930’s era.
She is a full composition doll that overall is in beautiful condition with just a small hole in her front seam that I have shown in a photo and have not worried about repairing. It appears to have been done in the factory making of the doll.
This lovely doll retains her original finish with sleeping blue eyes that have minor wear. Her paintwork is still nice and bright and very typical of Australian dolls. She retains her full brown mohair wig that is in beautiful condition.
She has no original clothing and has been dressed in a lovely green and white checked cotton frock with white broderie anglaise trims. She also has pants, socks, 1950’s Cinderella white strap shoes and a green knitted hat.
This is a lovely example of our much loved Australian dolls from days gone by and she displays beautifully.
